When most people think about reflexology, they picture pressure points on the soles of the feet.
But one of the most interesting areas I work on during treatments is actually around the ankle and along the sides and top of the foot.
In reflexology, different areas of the feet are thought to correspond with different parts of the body, and around the ankle we can map reflex areas linked to the:
- Uterus
- Ovaries
- Bladder
- Pelvis & hips
- Pelvic and groin lymph nodes
It’s an area I pay a lot of attention to during women’s reflexology treatments because it can sometimes feel surprisingly tender, congested or “stuck” when the body is under stress.
And honestly, this is one of the reasons I never get bored of reflexology. Feet are fascinating.
The Body Leaves Clues Everywhere
One of the things I’ve noticed over time is how much the body communicates through the feet.
Sometimes the area around the ankle feels soft and relaxed straight away. Other times there can be sensitivity, tightness or puffiness that gradually eases as the treatment progresses.
Stress, hormones, posture, tension, inflammation, poor sleep, emotional overload… the body is constantly adapting to what life throws at it, and reflexology offers an opportunity to slow everything down for a while.
Many women spend so much time in “go mode” that they don’t fully realise how much tension they’re carrying until they finally stop.
Reflexology for Stress, Sleep & Hormonal Wellbeing
While reflexology is deeply relaxing, many clients also choose treatment because they want support during particularly demanding periods of life.
That might include:
- Feeling mentally overloaded
- Poor sleep or difficulty switching off
- Hormonal changes
- Busy work and family life
- Feeling run down or depleted
- Wanting time to properly reconnect with themselves
Reflexology is not about forcing the body to do anything unnatural. The aim is to support relaxation and encourage the body’s own balancing processes in a gentle way.
For many clients, the biggest shift is simply giving their nervous system permission to slow down.
A Treatment That Helps You Pause
One of the lovely things about reflexology is that it creates space to stop for an hour.
No notifications. No rushing around. No needing anything from yourself other than to lie back and breathe.
Sometimes clients drift off to sleep. Sometimes they chat the entire way through. Sometimes they leave saying they feel lighter, calmer or more grounded than they have in weeks.
And yes… I genuinely do find feet fascinating. Every treatment is slightly different, which is part of what I love about this work.
