Can Reflexology Help With Anxiety?

"I feel worried and on edge and I can't seem to switch it off"...

You know logically that everything is probably fine. But your brain will not let you believe it. You are constantly waiting for something to go wrong, replaying conversations, catastrophising about things that have not happened yet. Your body feels tense, your chest feels tight and you cannot remember the last time you felt genuinely calm.

Anxiety is exhausting. And you do not have to just push through it.

Can reflexology help with anxiety?

Anxiety is rooted in your nervous system and that is exactly where reflexology works. When your body is stuck in that constant state of low level threat, reflexology helps to gently bring it back down, activating your parasympathetic nervous system which is your body’s natural rest and recover mode. Many of my clients notice they feel calmer and less reactive after just one session.

Can reflexology help with constant worry and overthinking?

When your mind is constantly churning through worries and what ifs, it is incredibly draining. Reflexology works to calm the nervous system response that drives that anxious thought pattern, helping to quieten the noise and give you a genuine sense of mental calm. It will not solve the things you are worrying about, but it can help you feel much more able to cope with them.

Can reflexology help with physical symptoms of anxiety?

Anxiety does not just live in your mind. It shows up in your body too, as a racing heart, a tight chest, a churning stomach, shallow breathing or tense shoulders. These physical symptoms are your nervous system in overdrive. Reflexology helps to regulate that response, easing those physical symptoms and helping your body to feel safe enough to relax.

Can reflexology help with panic attacks?

Panic attacks can feel terrifying, and the fear of having one can become its own source of anxiety. Reflexology supports your nervous system to become less reactive over time, helping to reduce the frequency and intensity of panic attacks. It is not a replacement for professional mental health support, but many clients find it a really valuable part of their overall toolkit for managing anxiety.

Can reflexology help with social anxiety?

Feeling anxious in social situations, dreading events, worrying about what people think of you, avoiding things you used to enjoy. Social anxiety can really shrink your world. Reflexology helps to calm the underlying nervous system dysregulation that drives social anxiety, helping you to feel more grounded, more confident and less at the mercy of your anxious thoughts.

Can reflexology help with anxiety that has got worse with age or hormonal changes?

Many women find their anxiety significantly worsens during perimenopause and menopause as oestrogen levels drop and the nervous system becomes more reactive. If you have noticed your anxiety creeping up as you have got older, reflexology can be a really effective way to support your nervous system and your hormonal balance at the same time.

Can reflexology help with anxiety affecting my sleep?

Anxiety and poor sleep are deeply connected. An anxious mind makes it hard to fall asleep, and exhaustion makes anxiety worse. Reflexology works on both at once, calming the nervous system that is driving the anxiety and helping your body to shift into the relaxed state it needs for proper sleep.

How many reflexology sessions will I need for anxiety?

Most clients notice a real shift after their first session, but for ongoing anxiety a course of regular sessions gives the best results. As your nervous system learns to spend more time in that calm, regulated state, you will find it becomes easier to get there on your own too. I will always talk through what I would recommend for you at your first appointment.
